On Wednesday we hosted Q5’s pre-application webinar where attendees got the opportunity to learn more about Q5 and the work they do, speak to current employees and gather first-hand insights into the application process.

You can apply to their paid spring week and undergraduate and graduate Internship Opportunities here - Apply

During the webinar, we also got the opportunity to hear from their Global Graduate Recruitment lead who has previously headed up recruiting at a Big 4 consultancy. She gave her tips and advice on how to create quality applications in this current job climate.

So I thought, why not share the gems with all of you?!

  1. Tailoring your application to the role - now you already know all of this but the type of research you do is key. Focus on researching the company’s strategy and long term plans (read their annual reports, what has their c-suite leadership said recently?)Emma mentioned its obvious when someone has just sent out 100 standard applications, so really take your time to adapt it to their specific requirements! Also scan the language they use on their website and use it in your applicaiton to show you understand the company and how they operate

  2. Be careful with using AI - you might thinking using AI is fine but Emma highlighted that the language and structure in AI prose makes it a lot easier for it to be detected (e.g. Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly)if you are going to use AI, amke sure to tailor your CV after use to make it actually relevant to the company.

  3. Demonstrate curiosity in your CV. Grades isn’t enough! - While good grades is great, employers want to see well rounded people with an interest in the field (in this case consulting). You can demonstrate this through things like joining consulting socieities, competing in case competitions, volunteering etc.

  4. Follow Up! - In a sea of 100s of applicants, following up is a very good way to stand out and bring you back to top of mind for the recruitment team. The proactivity aslso shows you’re actual interest in the role.
