Commercial Awareness
Here’s a snippet of the major news in the business and finance world this week! Remember, always try and spend 10-15 minutes everyday reading an article to help build up your commercial awareness
European Central Bank announced its 3rd rate cute of the year - This will have a positive impact on global markets and corporate finance with increased capital, liquidity and stronger valuations to drive M&A deal flow
Several cabinet ministers have written to the prime minister and the Treasury two weeks ahead of the Budget, to voice concerns over the budget - The key takeaway here is that Labour’s policies of spending cuts and increased taxes approach is anti-growth which will only drive away Investment and Capital to the U.K
Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup's third-quarter profits all topped analyst estimates on Tuesday - A mix of high interest rates and strong U.S. economic activity has driven this and gives off the signal that confidence is high in markets!
Tip of the Week - hiring manager intro template
Many of you have asked questions about applying on LinkedIn and not getting responses. Well, one thing you’re probably not doing is reaching out to Hiring Managers after you apply.
Remember hiring managers are getting 100+ applications for roles, so to stand you need to put your face in front of them - and the best way for that is by sending them a message.
Here’s a quick template you can use to send to Hiring Managers after you apply for a role:
Dear {Hiring Manager}
I hope you're well.
I wanted to learn more about the [Role Name] that you posted about. I'm currently a [current or previous title] with X years of experience in [specific industry]
I have experience in [relevant Skill] from [explain how you have used the skill] and [relevant skill 2] by [explain how you’ve used the skill].
I’m passionate about [role] and would love to have a quick discussion to find out more about the role and the key skills and competencies you’re looking for in an ideal candidate.
Thank you
