We trialled running one newsletter a week in January, but we missed dropping weekly career advice, so we’re now going back to 2 posts a week!

1 post will always be career advice-based and 1 will be our weekly jobs newsletter!

Questions are your differentiator

At the end of every interview, you will be asked - “Do you have any questions for me”

Your answer should never be no.

What many don’t realise is that this is still part of the interview and is your final chance to leave a positive impression on interviewers

It’s also not the time to ask basic questions, but in fact, demonstrate your deep research and understanding of the firm, as well as build a relationship with the interviewer.

The key here is to always ask 3 types of questions:

1) Personal - their career journey and motivation
2) Role Specific - what a high performer would look like, culture, etc
3) Company & Commercial Awareness - its vision, response to global news or trends

These 3 questions will cover all bases when it comes to impressing the interviewer and positioning you as a quality candidate.

So what are examples of questions to ask?

Don’t worry, we got you. Below are example questions you can ask:

1) Personal Questions

  • “What originally attracted you to your career path, and what’s kept you motivated as you’ve progressed?”

  • “Looking back, which role or experience shaped the way you work the most, and why?”

  • “What do you personally find most fulfilling about your role day-to-day?”

  • “What skills or behaviours do you think were most critical in helping you progress to where you are today?”

  • “If you were starting your career again now, what would you do differently?

💡 Why these work: they invite storytelling, create human connection, and often surface advice you can reference later.

2) Role-specific Questions

  • “What does a high performer in this role typically do differently in their first 6–12 months?”

  • “What are the biggest challenges someone new to this role usually faces?”

  • “How is success measured in this role beyond formal KPIs?”

  • “What behaviours or working styles tend to thrive best within the team?”

  • “What does progression look like for someone who performs strongly in this position?”

💡 Why these work: they signal ambition, self-awareness, and a long-term mindset.

3) Company & Commercial Awareness

  • “What are the organisation’s biggest priorities over the next 12–24 months?”

  • “How is the company adapting to {X change or trends} in the industry or wider market?”

  • “What differentiates this organisation from competitors in a meaningful way?”

  • “How do X global trends or current events influence decision-making within the business?”

  • “What does success look like for the company in the next few years?”

💡 Why these work: they position the candidate as someone thinking like an insider, not just an applicant.

Bonus:

Don’t wait till the end to ask questions, try and filter them in throughout the interview in order to turn it into a two-way ‘conversation’. This will make the interview more natural and build a better relationship with the interviewer
