The best part of our role is the messages from clients who inform us of their job offer or the multiple interviews secured after months of no interviews. When looking at the success of our clients who have secured job offers, there have always been 2 big shifts we make with them that have helped them take the next step.
The first key shift we make is bringing Clarity to their job search
When first talking to our clients, many of them fall into 2 buckets
1) Not sure exactly what they want to go into, have a few things they’re interested in2) Know the role they want but are unsure how to get there
For clients who fall into bucket 1, the key is clarifying what specific field they want to focus on. While being open-minded as a graduate in terms of roles that interest you is fine, applying for all and any role isn’t effective. The key is to streamline down the roles that interest them to 2 or 3 max. This will allow you to use your time effectively and focus on gathering the relevant skills and network for those specific roles.
For clients that fall into bucket 2, the focus is on gathering clarity on the actions to take to get to their end goal. Usually, they know what they want to get into but are unsure of the steps to take to get there.
The key here was to give them a clear roadmap for the steps they need to take. Usually, this means helping them break their job search into 2 key stages: 1) Steps to take to secure Interviews, 2) Steps to take to ace an Interview
We provide them with clarity on the steps to take, which can include things such as
✅ The type of roles to apply for (suiting your skill level and experience)✅ How to network with the right individuals✅ Potential skill gaps they have for the roles they want and how to address✅ How to structure interview preparation
The second key shift we make with our clients is their approach to their Job Search
40-50% of the hindrance to your job search progress is usually found in your job search approach. While our clients may have had the skills, experience and qualifications, their approach to their job search was sub-optimal.
The old school approach of just applying to a company job board no longer works as effectively as it did. So we helped clients shift to a ‘multi-avenue’ Job Search approach to maximise their chances of securing interviews.
Job Search ‘avenues’ consist of things like:1) Building relationships with recruiters2) Optimising LinkedIn profile to secure inbound messages from recruiters3) Leveraging Referrals from internal employees4) Follow-ups with Hiring Managers post applications
By using all 4 avenues when applying for roles, clients were able to broaden their job search and maximise their success rate of landing interviews
When clients started making both these shifts in their job search journey, their success and outcomes improved significantly. Hopefully this can help you too!
