Weekly Shoutouts

Hey {{first_name | “there” }} 👋

Being quite lazy with the shoutouts this week but here we go!

  • Shoutout to Vanessa, whom I met at Euston Station at 11:30pm on Monday, and came up to say hi. We both looked like we had a rough day (we need to overcome capitalism!)

  • To all our clients and members who secured their internships over the last couple of weeks (sorry too many of you to mention!)

  • Tottenham for letting me know there are no levels to shamelessness🙏

Weekly Career Insight - how to make your bullet points not suck

Sorry for the harsh title — but this cycle I’ve probs looked at well over 200 CVs and working with early career teams helped scan maybe double that

Many candidates had great experience: internships, side businesses, retail roles.
But their bullet points didn’t do any of it justice.

Most were either task summaries or word salads.

And this is a common problem:
Many of you have the skills and experience, but are not showing your impact clearly enough for recruiters to see.

Remember: the goal of your CV is to show the skills, competencies, and impact you bring to a role.

Here are 4 simple frameworks to write stronger CV bullet points.

1. XYZ Formula (Achieved X by doing Y resuling in Z)

This is one of the most effective ways to write resume bullets. It’s clear, powerful, and shows the direct link between your actions and the outcome.

Example 1: Achieved a 25% increase in qualified leads by launching a new outreach campaign that expanded our pipeline into untapped markets.

Example 2: Reduced onboarding time by 80% by automating the KYC process for all enterprise clients which unlocked value addded time for employees.

2. PAR (Problem – Action – Result)

This format is great for showcasing how you solve problems and the results you create.

Example 1: Reduced customer support response time by 20% by implementing a new ticketing system and optimising workflow processes.

Example 2: Cut project delays by 4 weeks through implementing an agile workflow including sprint pods and daily standups, improving stakeholder alignment.

3. Result-First

If you’ve got a big win, lead with it. This gets the reader’s attention immediately. Use this structure for things around winning deals, bringing direct revenue in or a big project win

Example 1: Increased monthly sales revenue by 18% through implementing new targeted email marketing campaigns.

Example 2: Saved over £50,000 in supply costs by 25% by analysing current procurement process and negotiating a partnership with 2 new vendors

4. Action Verb + Skill + Result

This is a concise, punchy format that works well for any type of CV and is the one you should start with.

Example 1: Communicated with 50+ customers on shop floor to provide tailored product recommendations based on their needs, contributing to a 95% monthly sales target success rate.

Example 2: Developed a user-friendly website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, resulting in a 30% increase in website traffic.
